\"me\"<\/a>Hi. \u00a0I’m Zach Bardon, and I’m a musician.<\/p>\n

People describe me as creative, but I think a better word is curious. \u00a0I’m curious hardcore. \u00a0I have an insatiable appetite for the unfamiliar. \u00a0So, I go out of my way to have new experiences, to try something new… which inevitably leads to some kind of creation. \u00a0Curious, curious caterpillar<\/span> Zach.<\/p>\n

I’ve written stories and essays and poems and treatises, invented games, designed curricula for music theory and English, learned to play all kinds of instruments, written computer programs and web applications, designed logos and lamps and terrariums and filtration systems, and pioneered\u00a0artistic lawnmowing methodologies.\u00a0\u00a0And,\u00a0in\u00a0particular, I’ve\u00a0written songs.\u00a0\u00a0Lots of songs.\u00a0\u00a0Lots of very different<\/em> songs, because I hadn’t written songs like them before.<\/p>\n

This hardcore curiosity means that I love traveling. \u00a0I love meeting new people, hearing new stories, seeing new places. \u00a0It also means that I love\u00a0discovering\u00a0new music; new textures or chords or arrangement ideas.\u00a0\u00a0In short, learning excites\u00a0me.<\/p>\n

The eventual result\u00a0of this ever-reaching, ever-branching curiosity is, oddly enough, union. \u00a0Bringing together disparate elements, because what if?…\u00a0how\u00a0would that work?…\u00a0Making a bizarre bicycle out of parts from very-differently-sized bicycles. \u00a0 Introducing a friend from Nebraska to a friend from Seoul. \u00a0Playing music with people whose language and culture I don’t know. \u00a0Quoting classical songs in my jazz solos. \u00a0Combining polka with gospel, Motown with surf rock, folk with jazz, R&B with bluegrass. \u00a0Playing bossa nova versions of rock songs, and rock versions of bossa nova songs. \u00a0Putting heavy distortion on an accordion, or recording percussion underwater. \u00a0That kind of thing.<\/p>\n

That’s what I’m about: discovering and reconciling the disparate. \u00a0I think the world is full of terrific, different people and if everyone just got a little curious, we might get interested enough in finding out how to live together that we forget all the petty reasons\u00a0we don’t.<\/p>\n

That is, in part, the gospel\u00a0I am taking on the road. \u00a0It is also why I am hitting the road in the first place. \u00a0To find more differences, and put them all together on a CD, using one of the world’s two common languages — music.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
