Rear-ending a Truck
DESCRIPTION: I was driving my friend Ryan Hartman home from basketball practice. I was happily putting along at a speed slightly below the speed limit of 35. It was raining. I approached a red light and began braking. For no apparent reason, the car began to skid. I reapplied the brakes (standard procedure to regain braking surface control). The car kept sliding forward. This defied the laws of logical thought. I proceeded to slowly crunch into the back of a Ford full-size pickup. I nearly laughed, I was so confused. I may have. Ryan, after some snorts and exhalations of bewilderment, finally asked, "What happened?" I couldn't answer him. I got out to look at the wreckage I assumed my car must have done to his truck, only to find that his truck was perfect and my car was completely sad. My front bumper was actually substantially lower than his rear bumper. His bumper had crushed the whole front grille area. The reason for this accident remains a mystery to this day.
DAMAGE TO OTHER CARS: Possibly a scratch.
DAMAGE TO CROWN VIC: Entire front end got jacked (except the bumper). Radiator pushed back, frame bent, headlights and grille completely ruined. I attribute this to the fact that the other vehicle was also Ford and was also full size. If we would have hit bumper to bumper I'm sure we could have both driven away. In any case, that's why the front fascia is white in some of the pictures of my Crown Vic.
