It Is Well - I love this song. When I went to a Rich Mullins concert with my friend Paul once, and we had packed out the place (i.e. it was full of people), toward the end of the concert Rich started playing hymns and leaving the stage after he started them. One of those hymns was this one, which was already one of my favorites. The whole auditorium, full to the gills with people, was singing "It Is Well" a capella! And very well, too. We were all singing parts. It was one of the most powerful and amazing worship times of my life. I think it was just a little foretaste of heaven.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
'It is well, it is well with my soul.'

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control -
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

(chorus)

My sin - oh, the bliss of this glorious thought -
My sin, not in part, but the whole -
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, oh my soul!

(chorus)

And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so - it is well with my soul.

(repeat chorus)
