Survey Archives: survey from 4.26.1999

Yes, it's that time again! Haven't done one of these for a while. So I'm shipping this out to the club (the Zach's Friends Club). You don't absolutely have to read all this, I was just at my 8-hour work stretch in the computer lab and hadn't much else I wanted to do.

FULL NAME: Zak Bardon
NICKNAME: Zach
BIRTHDAY: June 24th
HEIGHT: pretty tall
EYE COLOR: depends on the light... mostly green
HAIR COLOR: pretty dark brown
MEMORIES YOU MISS THE MOST: I miss a ton of things. I miss the bike rides with Julie and Courtney and Zach and Nathan and Mia and all the kids in my neighborhood by the light of the streetlights. I miss the carefree summers, conversations with Courtney before she got messed up, four square in the driveway, running around in the field with my BB gun shooting harmlessly at birds, wheelie riding contests, the big games of tag, "painting" the porches with water, playing Hot Wheels with Nathan and Jeff, and the feeling of coming inside a while after it was dark having just been outside playing all day long. I miss all the people at my junior high. I miss my senior class... the close cameraderie we all shared after our missions trip to Mexico, hwing-plur, the Mystical Glowing Stromberg, Music Man (need I say anything more?), the jam sessions after school, Zach the Mack pictures, the "where are we going?" syndrome, singing "Awesome God" in a huddle at chapel, Action Theatre, Break the Mold, the oogah horn, Mr. Jungman (well...), the time the entire Latin/Greek roots class piled in to my Crown Vic and we went and got repulsive octopus, playing Jars with Paul in the van on the way back from Mexico, food fights, the Math Movie, CD burnings, the Red Dwarf word, incredible chapels, during-school squirt gun fights, lunch at Grandma's in Oakland, the trash can game, "a duck!", the Bushnells, and sooooooooooo much more. I miss my family... singing songs and praying as a family before we went to bed, Melissa leaping straight into a chair and getting a black eye, the pterodactyl game, all our "car games", dad turning up Petra when mom was out (This Means War!), StephiTales, the whole recording thing from our humble beginnings copying "Odyssey" to Elmer and Dick and all the commercials to Horsey Wheeze to the Saga of Ralph the Lizard, getting put to bed, New Year's with the Jacoxes and cheese ball, EN, everything about Christmases, Polob in my grandparents' old house, my big stuffed dinosaurs... gosh, I miss too many things. I miss my church youth group... Pastor Ty's quick wit and serious, focused energy, the old Zeros band back in the day, the Straight Talk radio show, getting to play with stellar musicians like Matt and Carolyn and Pill and "that cool bass player" and the whole shabang, Pill and I just going with the flow and doing improv-ed chordal jams doing backup at the prayer meetings, the Happy Song, all the rockin' church retreats and the skits and talent shows and crowdbreakers, awesome youth workers like Chris Heuertz, David Chronic, Anne Smith, and Eric "Ho chi min" Guyer, Summerfest, VBS and all the cookie stashings, Mrs. Murdoch and my mom amusing the hundreds upon hundreds of wee childs as we all screamed and yelled that the bear (or whatever the villain was) was up on the bridge but she couldn't see... I could go on and on. I guess I'll stop, before I do. Oh, and I already miss it here, even though I'm not gone yet.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF Ouija?: bad things, man. Have nothing to do with it.
GUYS/GIRLS, WITH OR WITHOUT HATS?: "What does this mean?" I ask myself. I have no answer. I like hats, though. Particularly the Wheaties hat.

FAV.TV SHOWS: I haven't watched TV for ages. But I do recall liking Red Green, Mr. Bean, and GoBots (take that, Transformers!)
WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSEPAD?: I do not have a mousepad. It was either stolen or I got rid of it. I honestly forget which.
FAV. CONCERT YOU'VE BEEN TO: Rich Mullins... he got the whole crowd (BCC was packed) singing hymns a capella! It was incredibly awesome!

ROLLERCOASTERS-DEADLY OR EXCITING: I have only ridden on little kiddie roller-coasters in my short lifetime (true confession). I'm also scared of heights, especially when other people are up there too. It REALLY freaks me out when someone else leans over an edge or acts like they're going to jump off! By myself, I'm fine. For example, I helped my dad roof our house, and could have hung out over the edge without caring.

IF YOU COULD HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT AND WHERE?: I am not going to get a tattoo.
WHAT'S ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?: lots of boring white paint, a printout of "Be Thou My Vision," our housing assignment for next year, lots of pictures, a Ford Mustang poster, and pretty soon a Vegetable Animal Monument poster (with a rake).

PICK A SONG THAT BEST DESCRIBES YOU: No.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG?: Hmm... it depends which part of me is answering this question. "Remembrance" is a standout, and so is "Psalm 121" and "Bi-se i mo shuil" and "Love Travels" and "Lord Reign in Me" and "Be Thou My Vision" and "Kells Theme" and "Brown Eyed Girl" and "I Will Give My Love an Apple" and "Almighty Father Who Dost Give" and... ok, I like music too much to have a favourite.

You may say "this email has already taken you at least an HOUR!" and you would be perfectly right -- it has taken several (eight). But it would take me a day or eight to write out all the pets and their names! Zach and I were pet-keeping nature-loving maniacs. We still are.
SAY ONE NICE THING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU: Hi Liz! I'm excited about what's goin' on in your life... and I like seeing how you are going about all of it. And, of course, you "get things."
THIS SURVEY IS OVER: Yes.

supplementary note from 5.18.1999

Attention, please! On 4/26/99 I sent you a survey in which I indicated somewhat haphazardly that my favorite card game was Solitaire. This was a falsehood. I believe the quote actually read:

"FAV. CARD GAME: how about Solitaire"

Solitaire, while it is quite a fun and worthy game, is not my favorite card game. My actual favorite card game is currently Mille Bornes.

Awfully sorry for the emotional trauma this may have caused you.
